Summary: "Never again"

I've never felt raped by words before, but after reading this one, I felt a strong urge for a hot shower.

This is extremely disappointing considering that Nevada Barr was always a favorite author. I have all her books, most of them autographed when she lived in Clinton, MS.

Unfortunately, I won't be buying any more; over time they have become too dark and unpleasant. Maybe she can get a fresh mindset by re-reading her earlier novels to see how she used to write. They were spellbinding without casting an evil spell.

The hellish depravity so graphically described in this novel may have satisfied some personal need for Barr, but it did nothing but create a 'sick' feeling for this reader.

The best writers always tie up all loose ends in mysteries or thrillers. There were two big flaws in Burn; Barr wasn't up to par this time.

Burn is so sad for many reasons.

Summary: "Not a typical Nevada Barr mystery"

If you are looking for a good mystery set amid exceptional descriptions of our national parks, don't by this book. The plot is excellent but the topic is very dark. Reviews hint at a voodoo link which is absent in the book itself. Very difficult to get interested in. Still, probably worth reading if you can deal with horrors of its subject matter. But wait for the paperback version

Summary: "Disappointing"

I agree with the others who state that no matter what a good writer she is, Nevada Barr has put us through a very painful experience in reading this book. Though it is just as well-wrought as her other stories, one wishes she hadn't tackled such an excruciating topic. I really wish I hadn't read this book, because now I'm having nightmares of my own horrific childhood experiences.
